Dennis Seimen was slated to become VfB Stuttgart’s starting goalkeeper in 2026/27 but there are now internal doubts over the 20-year-old’s age and experience. Stuttgarter Nachrichten report that Sebastian Hoeneß, Fabian Wohlgemuth and Christian Gentner believe that it would be ‘too risky’ to select Seimen, who is yet to play in the Bundesliga, as the No.1 goalkeeper for a Champions League club for the upcoming season.
Coming off the back of a promotion campaign with Paderborn, who secured their Bundesliga return after overcoming Wolfsburg in the play-off, it’s feasible that Seimen could remain on loan at the East Westphalian club to gain vital experience, meaning that Stuttgart would need to enter the market for a replacement with Alexander Nübel returning to Bayern Munich.
According to SN, Finn Dahmen (Augsburg) and Noah Atubolu (Freiburg) remain options, as is Bernd Leno (Fulham). In terms of the latter, he has a wealth of international experience, has previously played for Stuttgart and, at 34, won’t jeopardise the future of Seimen, who club bosses see as the eventual No.1 goalkeeper. Additionally, Atubolu is also available after Freiburg confirmed the arrival of Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen.
