Birmingham City are prepared to offer top terms to a key target, but the player’s preference is to stay in the country he is already in, with a possible destination identified.
Blues are aiming to make an impact back in the Championship after a hugely dominant season in League One.
Manager Chris Davies is looking to strengthen his group and Birmingham have been linked with a host of different options.
The St Andrew’s side are now trying to tempt striker Oli McBurnie to return from Spain, while Hull City and Swansea City are also keen.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Birmingham are prepared to put lucrative terms in front of the striker to bring him back to English football.
However, the face a key issue as McBurnie would rather stay in Spain, where he has been playing for Las Palmas.
He is moving on from the Canary Island side on a free transfer and Celta Vigo could be his ticket to stay in La Liga.
Celta Vigo managed a finish of seventh in La Liga in the recent campaign, which was good enough to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League.
European football is something none of McBurnie’s suitors back in English football can offer.
McBurnie scored five goals across all competitions for Las Palmas over the course of last season, along with providing six assists, in a positive first campaign in Spain.
He played in both his side’s meetings with Celta Vigo in La Liga, giving his suitors an up close look at him.
McBurnie’s efforts were not enough to help Las Palmas avoid relegation and they finished second in La Liga.
During the course of the campaign, the 29-year-old was able to play away against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, games which will have been memorable for him.
Despite the high expectations and glamour around Birmingham at present, they could find it tough to convince McBurnie to snub playing in those types of games to turn out in the Championship next season.
