Birmingham City were linked with the striker during the summer window

Birmingham City have been told to capture one of the Championship’s deadliest former strikers in the January transfer window.
Blues may not have matched pre-season expectations during some of the early portions of this season, but they did attack the summer transfer window in the ambitious fashion many predicted them to do.
Following their record-breaking promotion from League One, Chris Davies’ side made a number of high-profile additions, including Kyogo Furuhashi, Tommy Doyle and Demarai Gray.
Although things haven’t gone perfectly for the Second City side, they are still within touching distance of the play-offs after 15 matches, which means that they may decide to continue their expansive recruitment in the January window.

During the summer, Birmingham were linked with a number of players as they continued to make impressive signings, some of which didn’t materialise into actual moves.
It was reported by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook that Aleksandar Mitrovic was a target for Blues, which is a capture that would’ve struck real fear into the division’s other times over what Davies’ side were capable of doing.
This didn’t end up happening, but Football League World’s Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, believes that if there is one deal Blues could revisit in January, it would be for the striker’s services.
It would be a hugely ambitious deal if Birmingham could pull it off, and in Jason's view, the Serbian could ensure a second successive promotion for Blues.
“It'd be Aleksandar Mitrovic and it’s not even close,” stated Jason. “That man at a Championship level, I don't care what age he is, he's an absolute freak.
“He's way too good for the level and if we had any chance of getting him I would be all over it like a rash. He's 100 per cent the player we should be after.
“It's Mitrovic, it's Mitrovic alone.
“He would be an absolute joke in his team and he would probably get us up to be fair.”

Given how tight and compact the Championship currently is, any slight edge gained in January could have massive ramifications come May.
During the 2021/22 campaign, Mitrovic set the record for goals scored in a Championship season as he netted a mind-blowing 43 times in 44 matches, whilst also providing seven assists.
Although the forward is now 31, he has kept up such goalscoring form in Saudi Arabia, where he bagged 68 goals in 79 matches for Al Hilal, matching the output produced by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Therefore, adding Mitrovic into Birmingham’s attack could completely transform their season and may even give them the edge to secure promotion.
His goals would be decisive and with creative influences such as Gray and Patrick Roberts providing for him, he could rip the Championship apart once more.
It may be hard for Blues to convince Mitrovic to swap Al-Rayyan in Qatar for the Second City, but if they could, it may prove pivotal in them realising their Premier League ambitions sooner than planned.
