West Bromwich Albion's back line blocked a string of efforts before the interval, and Jay Stansfield headed off target as the hosts pressed.

After Birmingham's triple change just before the hour, Carlos Vicente and Tomoki Iwata delivered a stream of crosses, with Jhon Solís and Ibrahim Osman both crowded out in the six-yard box. Marvin Ducksch then drew another smart save from O'Leary (71.).

The fourth official indicated five minutes and, after a long delay for Nathaniel Phillips, August Priske headed narrowly wide in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time. Solís then flashed a shot past the far post in the eighth minute of second half stoppage time.

Birmingham tallied 16 attempts and 11 corners. West Bromwich Albion produced nine attempts and three corners.

Next, Birmingham host Leeds United in the FA Cup. West Bromwich Albion visit Norwich City in the FA Cup.
