FC Bayern go into the second leg of the round of 16 tie against Atalanta Bergamo in a comfortable position. The Munich side have already made everything clear with their 6-1 first-leg win – now Vincent Kompany could rotate. One player who will be in the spotlight: Tom Bischof

The youngster is considered a hot candidate for a starting eleven appearance. At the final press conference, the 20-year-old appeared ready for his chance – and at the same time made it clear that FC Bayern will not be taking anything lightly despite their clear lead

Looking ahead to the second leg, Bischof expects a committed opponent from Italy. Despite the clear starting position, he does not expect a relaxed evening. „We expect Bergamo to throw everything into it and want to progress. They will come through the wings, they have fast players there,“ explained the midfielder

At the same time, he made it clear that the record champions‘ objectives remain unchanged: „Nothing is changing for us, we want to win.“

This attitude fits in with the current mentality of Kompany’s team, who have recently been playing consistently forward even when the game is clearly going their way and have shown no signs of letting up

Bischof impresses with flexibility

Bischof’s versatility is a decisive factor that could speak in his favour. The 20-year-old has helped out in different positions several times in recent months. „I’ve probably trained myself to do that a bit,“ he explained, adding that he had already played in unfamiliar positions at TSG Hoffenheim

He has also been deployed flexibly at FC Bayern – including at right-back and left-back. For Bischof, this is not a problem, but an opportunity. „I help out where I’m needed, and it’s starting to feel good there,“ he emphasized

Despite his adaptability, the youngster has a clear preference. Bischof still feels most comfortable in central midfield. „I’m happiest when it’s in the six,“ he said

He could be an option there in the second leg – especially with Joshua Kimmich suspended and Kompany possibly resting other regular players

Big chance for the youngster

In view of the personnel situation and the comfortable starting position, there is much to suggest that the Bayern coach will rely on rotation

It would be the perfect opportunity for Bischof to prove himself on the big stage – and possibly provide another argument for more playing time in the coming weeks

One thing is clear: FC Bayern not only want to reach the quarter-finals, but also confirm the strong impression they made in the first leg. Players like Bischof could play an important role in this.
