Having initially come through the ranks with Sunderland, Sam Greenwood joined Arsenal's academy as a teenager before making the switch to Leeds United in 2020. For both Leeds and Arsenal, he was prolific and often featured as a striker or attacking midfielder.

Although first-team opportunities at Elland Road were limited, he showed flashes of quality, particularly with his excellent set-piece delivery, long-range shooting, and inconsistent creativity in attacking areas. Greenwood featured infrequently for Leeds, often operating as a forward or attacking midfielder, but occasionally as a deeper playmaker.

To aid his development, he spent time out on loan with Middlesbrough and later Preston North End, with the 24-year-old then gaining valuable Championship experience and regular minutes. Across his career, Greenwood has built a reputation as a technically gifted attacker with strong ball-striking ability and vision, though consistency and physicality have occasionally been areas for improvement.

As he has looked to establish himself as a regular senior performer, his career has taken him elsewhere. He left Leeds permanently last summer for Polish side Pogon Szczecin in a £3.4 million deal.

It was a disappointing campaign, with Greenwood scoring three and assisting twice for the Ekstraklasa side. However, he was an unused substitute in three of the last four matchdays of the campaign.

Blackburn Rovers could be one destination for the playmaker now, with Bristol City and Wrexham also said to be keen on Greenwood. However, it appears as though Blackburn are most keen on former Greenwood's services.

In fact, Rovers have stepped up their efforts to sign Greenwood, having now lodged a bid. The latest comes via Ben Jacobs, with his update stating that the Polish outfit have rejected an offer from Blackburn for Greenwood.

He believes that the initial bid was £650,000 with add-ons taking the fee to £1 million but also that other Championship sides have enquired about Greenwood's price and availability this summer.

Greenwood was utilised in a variety of different roles for both Preston North End and Middlesbrough, but he is now entering his prime years and should be able to showcase his talent more consistently.

He's a capable set-piece taker and his shooting from range is also to be admired, as shown in his one and only goal for Leeds during a Premier League game against Bournemouth.

His playmaking ought to be better when factoring in the areas of the pitch he operates in, but Greenwood could benefit from a return to English football with more quality around him this summer.

He would be an excellent pick up for Blackburn, given he can play on either flank, as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder, or as a striker in a two-man partnership. However, they now know more cash is required if they want to acquire him ahead of Championship rivals.
