Boca Juniors announce signing of Corinthians idol

On the late afternoon of this Tuesday (27), forward Ángel Romero, who had two stints at Corinthians (2014-2018 and 2023-2025), was announced as the new signing for Boca Juniors, Argentina. The Paraguayan arrives at the Buenos Aires club as a free agent after not having his contract renewed with the Alvinegro at the end of the 2025 season.

On his Instagram account, the 33-year-old player celebrated the start of a new chapter in his career and signing with Boca: “Today I start a new chapter in my career. I join a huge club, with a history that commands respect and a fanbase felt worldwide. Wearing this jersey is a pride and also a great responsibility. I arrive hungry, committed, and eager to compete, give my all on the field, and fight for big things“, he said.

Ángel Romero might even face Corinthians again in the group stage of the 2026 Conmebol Libertadores. This is because Boca Juniors is in pot 1 and Alvinegro, in pot 2, after winning the Brazilian Cup for the fourth time against Vasco at Maracanã at the end of last season.

The former Corinthians number 11 did not stay at Parque São Jorge mainly after losing his place under coach Dorival Júnior in the second half, where he remained on the bench or was brought on in the final moments of some matches. Despite this, in 2025, he was one of the group leaders in the victories of the Paulistão and the Brazilian Cup.

In two stints at Corinthians, he scored 67 goals and provided 37 assists in 377 games (the foreign player with the most games in the club's history), with 175 wins, 99 draws, and 103 losses. Additionally, he won six titles: Brazilian Championship (2015 and 2017), Brazilian Cup (2025), and Paulistão (2017, 2018, and 2025). Romero is also the foreign player with the most goals for Alvinegro and is the second top scorer in the history of Neo Química Arena – inaugurated in 2014 – with 43 goals, only behind Yuri Alberto (45).
