Boca lost 1-0 away to Cruzeiro in the Copa Libertadores, with Néiser Villarreal scoring after the interval. Adam Bareiro was sent off for a second booking just before half-time, leaving Boca to play the second period with 10. They failed to register a shot across 90 minutes.
Tempers flared throughout and a melee followed the final whistle. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Leandro Brey was Boca’s standout in the player ratings, while Marcelo Weigandt struggled.
Brey was assured under the high ball and produced a sharp stop from Kaio Jorge, with little chance on the goal. His 435-minute run without conceding ended.
Weigandt underwhelmed, and the decisive move saw the forward slip between Lautaro Di Lollo and Nicolás Figal. Ayrton Costa became embroiled in the scrap, twice caught by Kaio Jorge, one chance saved and the other phase leading to the goal.
Lautaro Blanco impressed defensively and delivered a dangerous first-half cross that Bareiro nearly met. Santiago Ascacíbar worked hard with limited impact, though he did find Exequiel Zeballos with a fine switch after the break. Leandro Paredes endured his quietest outing since returning, booked early and close to a second caution after half-time.
Milton Delgado and Tomás Aranda were among the brighter midfielders, Aranda drawing a booking for Gerson before going off early in the second half. Miguel Merentiel had little influence, while Bareiro’s dismissal from duels with Gerson was seen as a little harsh but costly. Zeballos offered threat off the bench, and Figal’s introduction preceded the defensive lapse. Claudio Úbeda’s decisions were questioned as his unbeaten start ended.
