French police found a body in the Seine on Monday after an individual allegedly jumped during Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League celebrations. It takes the death toll from the post-final unrest to two.

According to Le Parisien, witnesses said the man, around 30, was under the influence of alcohol when he entered the river near city hall in the early hours of Sunday. He was later recovered by the river brigade.

The other victim was a 24-year-old motorcyclist who died after hitting concrete blocks on the Paris ring road while celebrating. Nationwide, more than 890 people were arrested, up 45% on last year, and 178 police and gendarmes were injured.

Unrest was concentrated in Paris, where thousands gathered on the Champs-Élysées, around the Parc des Princes and at other landmarks. Police intervened amid vehicle fires, looting, pyrotechnics and clashes. About 22,000 officers were deployed nationwide, including 8,000 in Paris, yet incidents were recorded in dozens of cities.

On Monday Emmanuel Macron hosted the PSG squad at the Élysée and condemned the violence as unacceptable. He backed the security forces and promised firmness towards those detained. Sunday was calmer, with around 100,000 fans celebrating near the Eiffel Tower as PSG marked a second successive Champions League title.
