Bojan Miovski is an honest striker but Rangers can hold Kevin Thelwell responsible for expensive gamble

Bojan Miovski never should have joined Rangers on a permanent deal. The club, Kevin Thelwell especially, gambled heavily with an upfront investment approaching £5 million for a player whose biggest success came at Aberdeen. That should have rung alarm bells right away. Miovski had never handled pressure at any meaningful level, and his short spell in La Liga with Girona exposed major flaws, as already noted by Ibrox Noise when analysing his mentality. He sank without trace in Spain and returned to Scotland, where he did shine against weaker opposition. However, the Rangers shirt was always going to be too heavy. Many supporters voiced doubts at the time. They were right. This transfer has turned out to be one of the most baffling in years and signing Bojan Miovski permanently was the fatal error.
Let’s be clear. Miovski’s stats never merited a major move. Even Cyriel Dessers, widely mocked during his Ibrox spell, actually produced more, a fact highlighted previously on Ibrox Noise during the autumn run. He scored in bigger matches. Dessers assisted more often. He offered far more in general play. In contrast, Miovski flattered to deceive. He picked up scraps at Aberdeen, where there was no expectation. Once pressure came calling, especially in the Old Firm cauldron, he disappeared. That goalless draw on his debut told us everything. Performances that followed confirmed the trend. He simply became a passenger. Signing Bojan Miovski permanently based on numbers alone was naïve.
He did score a double at Rugby Park and started to look like he MIGHT be catching some form, but unfortunately the league scoring dried up immediately. Bojan has just three for the season.
You cannot downplay how demanding the Rangers shirt is. Danilo and Youssef Chermiti understand the burden. They are not flawless, but they show resilience under pressure. Miovski lacks that. He crumbled in Spain, and that alone should have been a warning. His time at Girona showed he could not cope, which Ibrox Noise reflected on when covering his comments. Still, Rangers handed him a long-term contract with a sizeable wage. That has backfired. His contributions remain minimal. While he scored a couple of goals in low-stakes matches, the big moments passed him by. Crucially, the squad cannot afford passengers.
The obvious answer was try before you buy. Rangers should have followed the loan-with-option model, a structure that protects clubs from mistakes. That way, they could have tested him without committing millions. Even a quick glance at Miovski’s match log on ESPN confirms his output has not justified the hype. Now, the club faces another failed project. What’s worse is how avoidable it all seemed. The data showed it was a risk. His past performances echoed the same. Regardless, the board pressed ahead. While Miovski sulks and struggles, Danilo and Chermiti carry the burden. Fans expect better. The official Rangers profile provides the basic stats, but not the substance. Further trackers tell a similar story. Signing Bojan Miovski permanently was a mistake Rangers cannot afford again.
