Bolton, Barnsley, and Plymouth are some of the clubs interested in signing an in-demand EFL defender who has caught the eye in the 2025/26 season.

Bromley remain on course to make a serious push for promotion into League One this season, and plenty of their players have caught the eye for all the right reasons.

The Ravens have been the team to beat in the second-half of this year's league campaign, and it's set to be an interesting few months ahead, as they look to hold their nerve in the battle for promotion.

The likes of Michael Cheek and Omar Sowunmi have made hugely impressive impacts at both ends of the pitch, and unsurprisingly, they've both been regulars in the Bromley starting XI.

Bromley only won promotion into League Two in the 2023/24 season, as they beat Solihull Moors on penalties in the National League play-off final at Wembley.

They're clearly a club that is heading in the right direction, and if they can recruit smartly, they could find themselves challenging higher up the EFL pyramid in future seasons.

Bolton, Barnsley, Plymouth, Oxford & Aberdeen plot Omar Sowunmi deal

It's recently been revealed by Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke that Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley and Plymouth Argyle are all interested in a deal to sign Omar Sowunmi during the summer.

Championship side, Oxford United, and Scottish outfit, Aberdeen are also reportedly keen to strike an agreement, although it remains to be seen as to which club is currently the front-runner to secure his signature ahead of the 2026/27 season.

A move to any of the clubs interested in landing his signature could be tempting proposition for Sowunmi, especially with the likes of Bolton and Plymouth challenging for promotion into the Championship this term. Oxford are also fighting to stay in the second-tier, and could be a move that tempts the 30-year-old.

At 6'6" (1.98m) tall, some might question Sowunmi's agility, but it's certainly not an issue with the Bromley defender. He's well-known for being quick for a centre-back, which leads to plenty of recoveries of the ball.

He's also a threat from set-pieces, which is shown by the ten goals he scored in 67 appearances in his first spell with Bromley, before eventually making a move elsewhere.

Omar Sowunmi's journey up the football pyramid

Sowunmi started his career with Ipswich Town, but failed to break into the first-team setup, which saw him then move to Yeovil Town in 2015.

The centre-back was made captain of Yeovil in the 2018/19 season, but made the move to his hometown club, Colchester United in the summer of 2019 for an undisclosed fee.

He originally joined Bromley in 2021 after a successful trial period with the club, but was then released on a free transfer just two years later, before going on to join Sutton United.

Bromley won promotion into League Two in 2024, and made their move to bring Sowunmi back to the club, and he's gone on to play a key role for them in their bid for promotion into England's third-tier this season.
