Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that she wants dominance and consistency from her side when they face FC Twente in their latest UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture this evening.

The Blues travel to The Netherlands on Matchday 2 as they take on last season’s Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie champions at De Grolsch Veste.

Chelsea defeated Real Madrid 3-2 at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 1 and head coach Bompastor wants to see more dominance and consistency from her side against FC Twente.

“From one game to another, we always want the performance to improve,” Bompastor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “We have the game model and every game, we have the game plan. Sometimes, what you expect from the game plan is different to the game model, so you do what’s best for the team.

“Getting a result is always the most important but for sure, we want to perform as well. We expect to be able to perform in this game. Moving on from the Real Madrid game, I want my team to be dominant and have more consistency in our performance.”

Chelsea’s opponents FC Twente kicked-off the group stage with a 2-0 win at Celtic. Bompastor says that The Blues are ready for the Dutch side and that the focus is on continuing their own winning start.

She said “We study and analyse the opposition a lot and we know exactly what to expect in the game, we are prepared for it.

“We have the ambition to finish in first position in the group, so we want to win the game, get three points and continue our journey.”

FC Twente had some success with long range passing from the defensive areas against Celtic. Bompastor says that her team are always prepared for this tactic when Chelsea are likely to dominate possession of the ball.

She said “Transition is always an important part of the game, we know that from the beginning of the season. We are always prepared for that kind of situation. Transition in football is really important.”

Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture at FC Twente kicks-off at 8pm.
