Sonia Bompastor said there is no reason for Chelsea fans to worry after only eight players trained ahead of the Champions League game against Arsenal.

The French manager explained that when there are so many games coming thick and fast, different players have different load management schedules.

“When you are playing a lot of games and having quick turnarounds, a lot of players are doing individual programmes,” she said. “So everything is under control and we will have enough players to play the game tomorrow. Don’t worry.

“I’m not concerned. I think as a staff, our job is to make sure we prepare the players in the best way possible for them to come into every game. I think we have enough experience in the staff and myself to understand where they are and what is the best preparation for them going into the next game.

“We had two full days to prepare them, and I think we just did what we had to do with them to be prepared for the game.”

Aggie Beever-Jones took a knock in the 1-1 draw against the London City Lionesses, but has not been ruled out for the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

“We are assessing her, we will assess her tomorrow,” Bompastor said. “There is still a chance for her to be available for the game, so we’ll make the final decision tomorrow.”
