Ahead of Chelsea’s clash with London rivals Arsenal, Sonia Bompastor had positive squad news and praised her side’s depth.

There’s no rest in the Women’s Super League this week, as just three days after Chelsea reached their seventh successive Women’s League Cup with a win over Manchester City, they will take on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

A win for Sonia Bompastor’s side is crucial if they hope to cut down the six-point lead that City have at the top of the table before they meet the league leaders at the Etihad in February.

But before that, all eyes are set towards the Gunners, who held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw back in November, and will also be keen to take points from the Blues in order to cement themselves in the top three.

In good news for the host side, Bompastor confirmed on Friday that they faced no new injury concerns going into the weekend and that morale is high in West London.

“The team is doing great,” said the Chelsea boss. “It’s always easier to recover after a win, and every player who was involved in the Man City game is available for tomorrow.”

The Blues were without Keira Walsh, Niamh Charles, Kadeisha Buchanan, Mayra Ramirez and Catarina Macario for their trip to the Joie Stadium, who are all recovering from long-term injuries.

However Bompastor praised her squad’s depth as they remain fighting on four fronts this season, and face a congested fixture list.

“This week is a good example of when you want to compete in all four competitions,” she said. “’It means you have to play three games in a week, games where the physicality is really high. The intensity is high, and you want to have fresh legs going into the next game.

“I think it’s really important when you can rotate players to make sure you keep a good balance between the performance and also the physicality,” she continued.
