Aitana Bonmatí has been named the world’s best player for the third year in a row, finishing ahead of fellow finalists Mariona Caldentey and Alexia Putellas.
The Barcelona midfielder, who has also previously won the Ballon d’Or, enjoyed another productive season, scoring 22 goals and providing 15 assists. While she once again dominated domestically in Spain, she narrowly missed out on further major honours, with Barcelona losing the Champions League final to Arsenal and Spain falling short against England at the European Championship.
Bonmatí has spent her entire career with Barcelona and continues to build an impressive list of honours. She has now won three Champions League titles, six Spanish league titles, two Nations League trophies and a World Cup.
With this latest award, Bonmatí is recognised as the world’s best player for the third time, further underlining her influence at the top of the women’s game.
