The German champions came from behind to secure all three points, with Harry Kane scoring twice and Joshua Kimmich adding another in a pulsating thriller.

Bayern have now won five games in a row, and it would take an almighty collapse from here for them to lose the Bundesliga title.

First half

The game was played at a high tempo from the start, but it took around 15 minutes for either side to create a clear-cut chance. It fell to Bayern through Michael Olise, who was given space and time to cut in from the right-hand side and curl an effort towards the bottom corner, but Gregor Kobel palmed it to safety.

Nico Schlotterbeck had a heart-in-mouth moment following a studs-up sliding challenge on Josip Stanisic, and he was rightly shown a yellow card.

Moments later, Schlotterbeck glanced a header from a free-kick into the bottom-right corner to give Dortmund the lead, once again demonstrating his quality. It was a timely reminder of why he is being chased by a host of clubs, including Liverpool.

Karim Adeyemi looked lively throughout the first half and picked out Maxi Beier inside the box during a dangerous move, but Jonas Urbig prevented the danger by narrowing the angle.

Second half

Just after the break, Serge Gnabry tried his luck from 25 yards out, but his effort sailed well over the bar.

Adeyemi then played a lovely ball to Felix Nmecha, who cut Bayern open with a pass into Daniel Svensson, but Jonathan Tah made a superb block to deny the Swedish international, who had the goal at his mercy.

It was then time for Harry Kane to get into the act, as he scored from close range to equalise for Bayern. Gnabry did well inside the box to square the ball to him, and from that distance Kane would score any day, anytime, even with his eyes closed.

Dortmund nearly responded with a smart attacking move, but Beier could not poke his effort into the net from close range.

In the 68th minute, Schlotterbeck made contact with Stanišić inside the box, and the defender went down, leaving the referee with little option but to point to the spot. It was a soft touch but clear contact inside the area nonetheless.

Kane stepped up and converted the penalty to score his 30th Bundesliga goal and his 45th for Bayern across all competitions this season.

The action continued at a relentless pace at both ends, with Bayern looking eager to wrap the contest up quickly. Luis Díaz created space for himself to unleash a shot at goal, but the Colombian failed to hit the target.

Niko Kovac made some bold attacking changes, and Dortmund finally restored parity in the 82nd minute when Daniel Svensson scored with a deft volley.

Dortmund should have punished Bayern when further chances came their way, but Serhou Guirassy fired wide from Julian Brandt’s cross.

Shortly afterwards, Joshua Kimmich produced a terrific left-footed volley to send Bayern fans into absolute pandemonium.
