Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, explains: “We have known Joane for a very long time and have been monitoring him since his time at Paris Saint-Germain. Joane will strengthen our squad and play an important role for us right from the start of the new season. We are convinced of his qualities and see enormous potential for his sporting development.”

Gadou came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy and won the French championship with the U19s in 2024. In September 2024, the 1.95-metre-tall defender moved to FC Salzburg. He made a total of 58 competitive appearances for the Austrian side’s first team. He also made five appearances in the UEFA Youth League and one appearance in the second division for Salzburg’s reserve team, FC Liefering.

“Joane is a modern and physically strong centre-back. He has good build-up play, is extremely quick and still has room for development. Joane's abilities make him an ideal addition to our defence,” emphasises BVB sporting director Ole Book.

Gadou has been a regular in the French youth national teams since 2022. In 2023, he was runner-up at the European U17 Championship, and he captained his team at the tournament the following year.

Joane Gadou says: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the BVB family and can’t wait to pull on the Black & Yellow shirt for the first time. I want to achieve success in the coming years together with my teammates, the whole club and our incredible fans.”
