Botafogo have moved to keep midfielder Danilo amid financial strain, fending off interest from Flamengo and other clubs.
According to GE, the club owed three months of image rights payments and had not deposited any FGTS instalments since the player joined in July 2025.
The arrears left Danilo close to terminating his contract over delayed labour obligations. To avoid losing him, Botafogo paid one of the outstanding instalments, ensuring the midfielder remains at General Severiano.
Flamengo monitored their rivals during the turmoil and assessed Danilo positively, though no official proposal was made.
While Botafogo wrestle with debts, Flamengo aim to maintain momentum. They face Fluminense on Sunday 25 in the fourth round of the Carioca, with kick-off at 18h Brasília time at the Maracanã.
