Brentford Under-18s suffered a 4-2 defeat against Bournemouth in a Professional Development League tie at the Bournemouth Training Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees benefitted from an own-goal in the first period, whilst Jacob Hanson scored his side's second but the young Cherries proved to be the stronger of the two teams on the day.

Beau Redknapp had the game's first chance as his shot from just inside the box crashed against the crossbar in the early moments of the game.

Mingo Dane had Bournemouth's first opportunity as he raced clear with only the keeper to beat but Layton Nicholls made a fantastic reaction save to deny the attacker.

Little could be done to deny the opener from the home side though as Alfie Thomas rose highest to head in from close range.

On 25 minutes, the Bees found the leveller as Domeiro Bobb-Semple pounced on a loose pass from the home side’s goalkeeper, with his attempted pass to Redknapp taking a deflection off Max Collins and finding the net.

Despite the period of control from the away side, the young Cherries restored their lead as Thomas Robinson reacted quickest after Nicholls saved his initial effort, converting the rebound.

After the break, Robinson grabbed his second of the game, pouncing on a loose touch in the middle of the pitch before lobbing Nicholls.

On 55 minutes, the home side scored again, this time it was Dane who managed to win his duel against Nicholls in the air, rising high to head into the net.

Hanson pulled a goal back for Brentford as he controlled in the box well under pressure and steered in an accurate shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The game would end with the home side seeing out the rest of the game and securing the three points.

The west Londoners return to action on Friday 3 April as they travel to face Colchester United in PDL action.
