Man Utd fail in bid to consolidate third place in Premier League table

A battle between two teams chasing European qualification took centre stage in the Premier League on Friday night as Bournemouth twice fought back to earn a point against the in-form side across the entire division, Manchester United who missed the chance to tighten their grip on third place in the table.

Man Utd arrived on the south coast with an opportunity to move six points clear in third and four behind rivals Manchester City, who are not in Premier League action this weekend, in second place and took the lead thanks to a Bruno Fernandes penalty on the hour mark. The lead, however, did not last long as Ryan Christie equalised seven minutes later.

An own goal from James Hill restored United’s lead but after Harry Maguire was sent-off for conceding a penalty for a foul on Evanilson in the area, Junior Kroupi stepped up and sent Senne Lammens the wrong way to equalise and earn Bournemouth a point, extending their unbeaten run in the league to 11 matches.
