The midfielder was on loan at Fiorentina in December 2024 when he collapsed during a Serie A match against Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence. He was revived on the pitch then taken to hospital, where an implanted cardiac defibrillator was fitted.

Bove expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, crediting the support since day one for helping him take this step. He spoke of pride at joining a historic club and eagerness to train, play and repay the trust shown.

He terminated his Roma contract by mutual consent before signing for Watford.
