Stefan Rupp could be the man to make further progress with Bradford City, even though the League One club are up for sale

Bradford City have made great progress in League One this term following last season's promotion from League Two, and are vying for a play-off spot.

Meanwhile, Bradford and Wigan Athletic are up for sale, meaning that a change of ownership could be on the horizon in both West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

Bantams owner Stefan Rupp has enjoyed sole ownership of the Valley Parade outfit since 2019 and oversaw last season's promotion from League Two to League One.

Bradford have already been on a positive trajectory in recent months, but they would be a more desirable asset for prospective EFL owners if they clinch a place in next season's Championship.

Bradford City told they can continue progressing if Stefan Rupp doesn't sell - But a takeover could bring benefits too

The Bantams bolstered their League One play-off hopes when they defeated Leyton Orient last Saturday, thanks to Antoni Sarcevic's brace.

Meanwhile, Football League World asked our Bradford fan pundit, Boris Thomson, if he would welcome a change in ownership at this time, or if his club are in safe hands under Rupp.

As per The Athletic, Rupp has told suitors he wants £10million for the League One outfit, which would see him earn a profit of around £5m.

Thomson told FLW: "It's an interesting one. From Rupp's perspective, it kind of makes sense. The last couple of years, we are in an infinitely better position than three years ago. We look like we're going to continue this progress.

"The fee is kind of correct, I'd say. It seems as though he's doubled his investment, which is interesting, because when you buy Bradford City, you're kind of buying nothing.

"We don't own our ground, we don't own the training ground. You're kind of just buying contracts. It's an interesting one. I wouldn't be opposed to him selling up for someone with a bit more of a footballing background that can potentially take us into the higher divisions.

"Rupp made his fortune selling helicopter seats for helicopters, I believe. It's an interesting one. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'm not saying I'd welcome it.

"I think someone with a bit more footballing nous could be the one to take us up. But I'm not going to sit here and say that Rupp's not the right man for the job because the progress he's made in the last couple of years has been amazing."

Bradford City sale talk could split Bantams fanbase into optimistic and anxious factions

As summarised by Thomson, a new owner could help the Bantams progress in the Championship, should they successfully win promotion to the second tier.

However, Rupp has done positive work at the Bradford ownership helm, so a change in hierarchy is not immediately required, even though the West Yorkshire outfit are for sale.

Meanwhile, some EFL takeovers in recent seasons have decimated clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, who are in administration following the severe mismanagement of former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

On the other hand, Wrexham are thriving under the ownership of Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who could take them all the way from the National League to the Premier League now that they are closing in on a Championship play-off place.

Birmingham City are also progressing well under Knighthead Capital Management, who oversaw last term's League One title-winning season.
