Pablo Vegetti has endured a stuttering start at Cerro Porteño, with one goal in 10 appearances since arriving in Asunción a little over 60 days ago.

Cerro beat Rubio Ñu 2-0, then dismissed head coach Jorge Bava. According to Globo.com, Bava had publicly supported the striker, saying the goals were missing but the work-rate was there and he knew improvement was needed.

The 37-year-old, Brazil’s 2025 top scorer despite a reduced role late on at Vasco, signed a three-year deal and wears number 19. He has played 675 minutes so far and has twice been used from the bench as he adapts.

In the win over Rubio Ñu, supporters such as Sergio Gonzales said he failed to take three clear chances and is not meeting expectations. Fellow hincha Aldo Martinez called the output very poor, adding that even if the team offer limited service, his technique looks low.

Cerro’s squad includes 10 foreign players and the league permits only four per match, tightening selection. On the pitch his combative style remains, full of chases, sliding challenges, flick-ons and constant instructions. The stands have been unconvinced, with pressure rising given the club’s significant outlay.
