Brazil face Haiti on Friday in the World Cup Group C second round, a decade on from a 7-1 that featured future Flamengo idols.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Filipe Luís and Gabriel Barbosa featured in that match. That Group B second round match at the 2016 Copa América finished 7-1, with a Philippe Coutinho hat-trick, two from Renato Augusto, and goals by Lucas Lima and Gabriel Barbosa, while James Marcelin scored for Haiti.

Back then, Filipe Luís was at Atlético de Madrid and Gabigol was in his first spell at Santos. They would only join Flamengo three years later, Gabriel early 2019 and Filipe midway through that year.

Only Gabriel Barbosa directly affected the scoreline, with Filipe Luís more prominent defensively. Neither is in the current Brazil squad, the forward endured a dip in form and the defender retired to become a coach.

Both were part of Flamengo’s 2019 campaign, which delivered the Libertadores and the Brasileirão. Gabriel ended his stint with 16 goals in finals. Filipe later became head coach and led the 2025 team to repeat that 2019 achievement.

For the Haiti game, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Léo Pereira and Lucas Paquetá are at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time at Lincoln Financial Field in the United States.

The quartet could help Brazil secure a first win at the 2026 World Cup after a 1-1 draw with Morocco in the Group C opener. The match will be broadcast on Globo, SporTV, GE TV, CazéTV, SBT and NGSports.
