Over the weekend, Real Madrid players Vinicius Junior and Endrick Felipe were eliminated from the 2026 World Cup after Brazil lost 2-1 to Norway. It was a particular disappointing exit for the Selecao, as two second half goals from Erling Haaland ensured they would be heading home at the round of 16 stage of the competition.

Vinicius will have been able to leave North America with his head held high after a number of good performances, but Endrick will surely be more disappointed. He struggled to make an impact due to barely being counted upon by former Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti, although when he did get his big chance, it came to nothing.

Having been brought on in the 58th minute against Norway, Endrick would go on to have Brazil’s best chance – aside from Neymar Junior’s late penalty – when he went one-on-one with Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. However, he failed to hit the target, much to the disbelief of those supporting the Selecao.

After the full time whistle, those feelings turned to anger, and as per Marca, Brazil icon Romario took aim at Endrick for missing that golden opportunity.

“I like Endrick and he is going to be a player who will give us a lot of joy, but against Norway he was terrible. People say: ‘Ah, he’s young’, but he has to score that f****** goal. Young, middle-aged, old, I don’t care.”

Endrick receives statement in wake of Brazil’s World Cup exit

In the last 12 hours, Endrickwho is expected to stay at Real Madrid this summer – has broken his own silence on Brazil’s World Cup elimination, as he took to Instagram to thank his and Brazil’s supporters for their efforts over the last few weeks.

“I still have a hard time thinking about how to comfort everyone as I would like, but I know that I have many people to thank: God, for the opportunity; to my family, for their love and support; and to all Brazilians, for their encouragement. The pride in our history and the hope to win the biggest trophy again will continue to guide me every day, and with each one, I will do my best to be together again and stronger.”
