Manchester City’s Ederson has reportedly received a direct call from one of Brazilian football’s icons and a former Galatasaray player, amid links to the Turkish club.
The future of Ederson at City has remained one of the key topics of the summer transfer window so far, with interest in the goalkeeper emerging from multiple destinations following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
The 31-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium and is the subject of serious transfer interest from Galatasaray, who have moved into the picture and are said to be assembling an offer for all parties.
It has been suggested that the Turkish giants could attempt a bold package for Ederson, while there has also been talk of interest in Manuel Akanji and Ilkay Gündogan – although the belief around the latter pair is that they could remain in Manchester.
City, for their part, remain open to offers for Ederson. The Brazilian shot-stopper has won every major honour with the club across eight full seasons and, while still valued internally, is no longer seen as indispensable.
According to the information of Turkish newspaper Fanatik, as translated and relayed by TurkishFootball, former Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo has been in direct contact with Ederson aiming to sway the goalkeeper towards the Istanbul club.
Melo has reportedly provided the Manchester City goalkeeper with detailed information about Galatasaray, its fanbase, and the overall experience of playing in Istanbul – all of which is said to have further solidified Ederson’s desire to join the club.
Whether Galatasaray can match City’s valuation remains to be seen, and while a concrete bid is still to arrive from the Süper Lig champions, it is believed they are increasingly confident a deal can be struck.
Ederson’s situation has also been monitored by clubs in Saudi Arabia over the last 12 months, although efforts in that region have so far focused on identifying Manchester City’s stance and the player’s expectations rather than placing firm proposals on the table.
Should Ederson depart in the coming weeks, Manchester City are likely to act swiftly. Stefan Ortega Moreno remains a strong internal option and has spoken publicly about his desire to be a No.1 – either at City or elsewhere. However, Pep Guardiola’s side are not expected to go into the new campaign without a marquee replacement.
The latest indications are that City will make a move to bring back their Academy graduate James Trafford from Burnley, with the player keen on the idea and the club holding both a buy-back clause and sell-on percentage in the deal that took the player to Turf Moor in 2023.
