Brendan Rodgers could finally speak out about his sensational departure from Celtic. The hugely successful former Celtic manager was confirmed as the new Head Coach of Saudi side Al Qadsiah on Tuesday afternoon.
Rodgers, who signed a lucrative two and a half year deal with the Saudi Pro League outfit, will be presented to the media on Wednesday. This could lead to Rodgers finally having his say in what happened over the last few months at Celtic, which hastened his departure from the club and resulted in an embarrassing personal attack by Celtic’s major shareholder against Rodgers communicated via the club’s website.
Despite the inflammatory language used against Rodgers, he kept his silence about his Celtic exit. The recent turmoil around the club, the seeming lack of engagement with the fans and the recent appointment of Wilfried Nancy will allow the perfect retort by Rodgers. However, he could very well speak out about the exit and what he believed to be the root of the issue at the Scottish Champions.
Rodgers, who has brought John Kennedy and Jack Lyons in with him, will be armed with a war chest in Saudi as the club look to become the prominent force in the region. Raheem Sterling has been linked with a move as has Liverpool legend Mo Salah, both wingers are on eyewatering wages that the Saudi club won’t flinch at. Moreover, Rodgers will see the move to Saudi as an opportunity to coach abroad, enjoy the riches of Saudi but keep himself involved in the game to ensure a possible return to the English Premier League is on the cards.
