Brentford are weighing up a move for Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson as they brace for the likely departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, according to The Standard.
Mbeumo, who netted an impressive 20 Premier League goals last season, has been the subject of two rejected bids from United, but the Red Devils are reportedly preparing a third offer. It seems only a matter of time before the Cameroon international heads to Old Trafford.
While Brentford fans were pleased to see Mbeumo returning to training on Monday — even featuring in a light-hearted social media video from the club — few expect him to remain in west London for much longer. His influence on the pitch, leadership in the dressing room and connection with the fanbase will be difficult to replace.

Omari Hutchinson has emerged as a surprise yet ambitious target. The 21-year-old former Arsenal and Chelsea youngster stood out last season for Ipswich, despite the Tractor Boys suffering relegation. Hutchinson delivered three goals and two assists across 31 appearances, showing flashes of brilliance in a struggling side.
Signed for up to £22.5 million from Chelsea just last summer, Hutchinson remains highly rated. Chelsea hold a matching clause on any bids but are “likely to waive that option” as they have already added Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian to their wide options.
Hutchinson is determined to stay in the Premier League, and a return to London is thought to appeal to him. With Mbeumo’s exit looming, Brentford see the England Under-21 international as a player who could slot straight into Keith Andrews’ plans.
Brentford’s recruitment model has always been about clever planning and sustainable investment. Identifying Hutchinson fits this approach — a young, talented player eager to prove himself, with plenty of development upside.
However, Standard reports that “there has yet to be any club-to-club contact between Brentford and Ipswich over a potential deal.” This suggests that while the interest is genuine, negotiations are at a very early stage.
New manager Keith Andrews will be keen to shape the post-Mbeumo era, and Hutchinson could provide the spark Brentford need to keep progressing in the top flight.
For Manchester United, landing Mbeumo would be a statement. After his 20-goal haul, he is seen as one of the most dangerous wide forwards in the division. Brentford’s challenge is to ensure they reinvest wisely, with Hutchinson potentially forming part of that plan.
Fans will be hoping the club acts decisively to secure Hutchinson if Mbeumo’s move materialises, as waiting too long could see them miss out on a key target.
As a Brentford supporter, it is hard not to be excited by these developments, even if it’s bittersweet. Losing Bryan Mbeumo hurts — no question. He has been sensational for us, with his pace, intelligence and finishing lighting up the Gtech Community Stadium week after week. But the club’s vision doesn’t stop with one player.
The idea of bringing in Omari Hutchinson sparks real hope. He’s young, skilful, and desperate to prove himself. Seeing how Keith Andrews could mould him into a key figure is thrilling. Andrews has already shown he wants dynamic, hungry players, and Hutchinson fits that mould.
There’s also a sense of excitement that Brentford are again sticking to their smart recruitment principles. It’s what sets the club apart from so many others. If this deal happens, it’s a sign that Brentford are not just surviving in the Premier League, but building.
