Brescia court declares Brescia Calcio insolvent after 115 years | OneFootball

After 115 years, Brescia Calcio has been declared insolvent by the Brescia court, formally ending the 1911-founded club's activities. According to L'Équipe, the ruling confirms the Lombardy side has ceased operations.

The club was stripped of professional status in summer 2025 and excluded from all national competitions. It was barred from the 2025-26 Serie C season after an administrative relegation at the end of the previous campaign.

Debts stood at close to €20m, and the court has now pronounced the club bankrupt.

Across its 115-year history Brescia moved between Italy's top two tiers and developed Andrea Pirlo. It also featured Roberto Baggio from 2000 to 2004, Luca Toni from 2001 to 2003, Pep Guardiola in 2003 and Mario Balotelli in 2019-2020.

A transfer to Tottenham for academy graduate Sandro Tonali had given president Massimo Cellino late hope of funds via FIFA's solidarity mechanism, but that hope proved in vain.

The city retains a team after mayor Laura Castelletti drove the creation of Union Brescia in July 2025. Formed through Feralpisalò's relocation to Brescia, the new tenants of the Mario-Rigamonti Stadium began life in Serie C last season.

Coached by Eugenio Corini, Union Brescia narrowly missed promotion to Serie B in June, losing to Ascoli in the play-offs, 1-1, 3-0.
