Everton face National League side West Brom in the FA Cup this week and despite the gulf in quality between the teams, Brian Sorensen isn’t taking anything for granted.

The FA Cup Fourth round kicks off on Thursday night with games taking place until the end of the weekend.

Brian Sorensen taking West Brom test seriously

Everton boss Brian Sorensen was full of positives talking about his team this week.

The Toffees face West Brom in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Thursday night but just because they play in the lower divisions doesn’t mean they will be an easy win.

“They try to play and they do different things in different phases of the game,” Sorensen said. “Any time we play a team from a lower league, it’s never a walkover, you have to be at your best and showcase yourself to open up their organisation and so on.

“Thursday night under the lights is a good occasion to display some good football. We will rotate a bit but not massively. We are looking forward to it and I think it’ll be a good day hopefully.”

West Brom are hosting the WSL side on Thursday evening. With home advantage, the Baggies will be hopeful of causing an upset in the fourth round.

Sorensen has high hopes for Everton’s cup run this year and believes that his team can go far in the competition.

“It’s a competition that sits away from where we are in the league and hopefully, we can go on a good run.

“We’ve shown this season that we can beat the best teams in the league on the day, so in the FA Cup where things are decided on the day, that’s what we will strive for.”

Everton scraping by in WSL

The Toffees are struggling in the WSL but their season is far from over just yet.

Sorensen’s team are third bottom in the league, but with only one team facing relegation this season their position isn’t too much of a disaster.

Everton are still four points ahead of their bitter rivals, Liverpool, and there is plenty of time for them to extend the gap.

The relegation threatened side face Brighton next weekend in their next league game. Liverpool face two of the top four in their next two games, so Everton will be hoping to capitalise on dropped points.
