Brighton and Hove Albion have pledged a new physical tribute to replace the Amex Heritage Wall after supporter backlash to its planned removal.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, the club had intended to take down the 2,500-tile display opposite the stadium and offer an online alternative costing £45.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber acknowledged the distress and confusion caused and said designs for a replacement will be shared. Existing tiles will remain until the end of this season.

The club say the wall has deteriorated with age and weather, with some tiles lost or brittle. They will aim to reflect the current layout and keep access, and are targeting installation as early as possible in the 2026-27 season.

Albion will assess location and materials to make dedications more durable while staying accessible. The wall was built by a third party in 2011, and the club do not hold data for buyers before January 2023. Those who bought after that date had been promised a free place on a virtual Fan Wall for next year’s 125th anniversary, which will now be separate from the physical tributes.

Fans including Simon Rushbridge, Alex Richardson and Brandon Cresdee objected, citing memorials to loved ones and long family traditions. Richardson, a supporter for 50 years, said he was not notified and felt the move was out of step. Cresdee described a paid photo wall as distasteful and believes the tiles could be salvaged. About 3,000 people have signed a petition urging a rethink.
