Liverpool will hope to get their Premier League campaign back on track as Arne Slot’s side visit Brighton but will be missing both Mohamed Salah and goalkeeper Alisson due to injury.
A defeat to Wolves and draw against Tottenham, two of the division’s strugglers, had derailed the defending champions’ push for a top-four finish, with the players booed off in their last league outing. Some flagging faith was restored, though, by a brilliant performance in midweek as a first-leg deficit was overturned against Galatasaray.
Though the victory has come at a cost with Salah ruled out until after the international break and Alisson, who will not join up with Brazil, also missing out on the trip to the south coast. Giorgi Mamardashvili will deputise between the posts.
Brighton would move back into the top half with a victory here after edging out Sunderland last weekend. Fabian Hurzeler’s side have an exactly even record of wins, draws and losses through 30 games of the league campaign, perhaps reflecting their inconsistency. They have shown, though, an ability to trouble Liverpool in the past, and beat their visitors here last season...
The return of Jeremie Frimpong at right back allowed Dominik Szoboszlai to star in midfield in Liverpool’s big win over Galatasaray, and former captain Steven Gerrard has urged Arne Slot to play the Hungarian in his “proper position” over the final weeks of the season.
“People are going away now talking about his performance because he's exciting and he's entertaining,” Gerrard said. “But he's in his proper position. Keep him in his proper position. Let him flourish."

Liverpool are “frustrated” by their own inconsistency this season, captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed.
The Reds have dropped points against Wolves and Tottenham in their last two Premier League games but showed what they are capable of with an impressive 4-0 win over Galatasaray in midweek.
“I think occasionally we have been showing and playing good games but not consistently and on a regular basis and it’s been frustrating for all of us and for the fans as well.”
