According to Bristol Live, the 19-year-old is set for a temporary exit from Ashton Gate as he seeks senior experience.

The full-back will be looking to make his breakthrough to senior football in the upcoming campaign after shining at underage level for the Robins.

He is yet to make his first-team squad debut for the Championship side, but has performed as part of their under-21's side, and he played a major role in the club’s run to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2024.

Anderson has emerged as an exciting prospect from the Bristol City academy system, which has produced a number of top talents in recent years.

The likes of Antoine Semenyo and Alex Scott have both come through at underage level for the Championship side, and now Anderson will be looking to follow in their footsteps, with both Semenyo and Scott ending up in the Premier League at Bournemouth.

It has been reported that he will first have to go out on loan before making any breakthrough in Gerhard Struber’s plans.

And it is believed that an agreement has been reached with Cheltenham, who are preparing for their second season back in League Two, with Michael Flynn currently in charge at Whaddon Road.

The Robins finished 15th in the fourth tier last season, so will be hoping to improve over the summer in order to fight for promotion to League One.

The fourth tier club have already added Robbie Cundy and Lee Angol to their first-team squad, and are now reportedly closing in on a loan for Anderson, who will provide competition at left-back and potentially will rival another youngster in 19-year-old Freddy Willcox.

Anderson is at that point now where going out on loan is the sensible next step in his football career.

The full-back is perhaps not quite ready to compete in the Championship, but at 19 years of age, he should be playing at senior level now to see what level he is at.

Cheltenham could be a smart move for him as they will want to improve on their 15th-place finish last season in League Two, and with the right additions, they could be fighting for a play-off spot.

Struber will be keeping a close eye on the defender, and if he can hit the ground running and perform well immediately then it might show he could soon have a role to play for Bristol City.
