A strong window could have the Robins in play-off contention.

It's a new year but Bristol City are still in the same rough position that they are always in in the Championship - that could change with some swift January action though.

Improvements will need to be made to Liam Manning's side fairly quickly if they genuinely want to sustain a play-off challenge.

Some of the summer signings haven't been as successful as many at Ashton Gate were hoping that they'd be. They used the money they earned from the sale of Tommy Conway to fund deals to further bolster their attacking options, but they haven't been able to replicate his level of output with any of the players that they brought in.

City have been linked with some names already in January. Some of them would be a big help to their chances of moving up the table, but there are also others that they haven't been connected with who could really aid them.

If they were to get these two players through the door quickly, it could be a real game-changer.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji

The Arsenal under-21 was previously on the radar of a number of clubs in the summer, including two in the Championship, one of whom is the Robins. They, alongside Swansea City, were said to be vying to sign Nathan Butley-Oyedeji before the deadline on 3rd February, as per Football Insider.

No move ever came to fruition for the 21-year-old forward who has been electric in the Premier League's developmental division, Premier League 2, this season.

He is one of the highest scorers in the competition and has really started to come into his own.

He has had loan moves in the EFL in the past, with Cheltenham Town last season and Accrington Stanley in the one prior to that.

Both clubs played in League One at the time, and while Butler-Oyedeji wasn't a huge hit for either team, he is clearly a player of interest to City and could help to mend some of their problems in front of goal.

Richard Kone

The amazing story of the Wycombe Wanderers centre-forward has captured the hearts and imaginations of those across the British footballing landscape. Not that long ago he was playing at the ninth-highest level of English football for Athletic Newham FC, who are most notable for their badge's similarities to the Atlético Madrid badge.

While Kone may not be with the non-professional club anymore, the 21-year-old has been playing like a La Liga forward for Wycombe this season, continually bagging goals.

Adding a centre-forward with the clinicality that Kone has proven to have would be a huge bonus for the Robins. They have been one of the better teams at creating chances this season, but their lack of ability to take them has been frustrating.

Kone has already been linked with moves to the Championship this winter, so City wouldn't be on their own in their pursuit of him if they were to join the race. Football League World exclusively reported that Luton Town are considering a move for the the Ivorian striker. Swansea were also said to be interested in him.
