Brondby director Benjamin Schmedes has revealed that there’s been no breakthrough in the summer pursuit of Mathias Kvistgaarden. The striker has been targeted by Celtic in recent seasons with a move for the talented Danish attacker touted.
This summer, Celtic have been expected to return for Kvistgaarden but the reports have slowed in recent weeks, suggesting the Scottish Champions have cooled their interest.
As reported by Herald Scotland, Schmedes has confirmed that there has been a lot of interest in the player but that a deal was not close to being confirmed.
“It doesn’t surprise me that there is great interest in him from many teams, but I can’t say that he is close to being sold or that he is far from being sold either.
“That’s because it is an ongoing process and the most important thing is that we are very transparent in our dialogue with each other.

“Kvistgaarden made his debut for Denmark in a friendly against N Ireland earlier this month and national boss Brian Riemer praised him.
“In almost all the matches I’ve seen Kvistgaarden play, he’s been a tormentor for the opponents’ defences.
“He really gets a lot out of a little.
“He is a guy who believes in even the most impossible chance. He is willing to run with and without the ball.”
The 23-year-old has scored 47 goals and assisted on 19 occasions for Brondby in 126 appearances, form which has earned him a call-up as well as interest from across Europe. Celtic have been linked with the player for some time but it has been expected that Brendan would return for a key target, as he looks to replace Kyogo.
Celtic are expected to sign Callum Osmond from Fulham in the coming days along with attacking midfielder Benjamin Nygren. However, the club may look to add a centre forward, especially if it is not clear whether Maeda will continue centrally or return out left. Adam Idah has shown flashes of his quality but the club need a number of quality attacking options to compete on all fronts.
