Brouwers strikes late as Heerenveen rise to eighth

Heerenveen beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-1 at the Abe Lenstra Stadion to climb from 10th to 8th in the Eredivisie.

Jacob Trenskow opened the scoring in the 40th minute, finishing left footed from the centre of the box.

After the restart, Heerenveen defended stoutly. Bernt Klaverboer saved from Tobias Lauritsen before denying Joshua Kitolano late on.

Substitute Luuk Brouwers, introduced (77.), doubled the lead from a tight angle on the right (82.). Moments later, Mitchell Van Bergen halved the deficit with a long range strike (86.) after a Pelle Clement pass.

In the closing stages, four minutes of added time were indicated and Dylan Vente drew a save from Joel Drommel.

Heerenveen registered 16 attempts, with 14 coming from inside the area. Sparta Rotterdam saw 55.5% of the ball and delivered 27 crosses but produced three shots on target.
