Manchester United rolled back the years with a stunning performance against Manchester City last weekend.
The Red Devils, under the guidance of Michael Carrick, put their local rivals to the sword throughout the match in an almost perfect performance.
There were numerous players who deserved to be player of the match, but The Peoples Person asked their readers who they felt deserved the title.
30% of fans felt that the Portuguese magician deserved the honours.
Playing in a more attacking number ten role, Fernandes contributed the assist for Bryan Mbeumo’s opener and also created numerous chances in the match.
18% of fans voted for United’s young Danish starlet. The youngster has not had the easiest first year in English football, but fans have seen a big improvement of late.
He spectacularly scored his first goal for the club on Boxing Day against Newcastle United and also grabbed United’s second against City, playing further forward in attack.
11% of fans believed that Casemiro was the best player on the pitch for United.
The Brazilian turned back time with a huge performance in which he was all over the pitch.
He intercepted and cut out numerous City attacks and, alongside Kobbie Mainoo, helped dominate City’s midfield.
11% of supporters also felt Maguire was the outstanding performer of the day.
Coming back from injury, Maguire looked like he had never been away as he put in one of his best ever defensive performances.
He was a rock at the back, blocking and bullying City forward Erling Haaland all afternoon.
Pundits before the match predicted that Martinez would be tossed aside by Haaland. They could not have been more wrong.
Alongside Maguire, he put in a vintage performance that kept City down to just one shot on target in the entire match.
As a result, 9% of readers believed he was the side’s star performer.
Goalscorer Bryan Mbeumo also recorded 8% of the vote after yet another goal in a big game, following up strikes at Anfield and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
7% of supporters backed Amad as the best player on the pitch in red. The Ivorian, like Mbeumo, made his return from the Africa Cup of Nations and reminded everyone of his talent in a sublime showing.
6% of fans were also highly impressed with Kobbie Mainoo’s performance in the Manchester derby. The youngster has been on the fringes for most of the season under Ruben Amorim but reminded the world of his talent with an outstanding showing in the middle of the park.
