Manchester United were very close to a major sale last summer when Saudi Arabian clubs showed huge interest in Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese star revealed in an interview earlier this year that he was very close to leaving the club last summer but ultimately decided to stay.

Thankfully, he did, as Fernandes has been in incredible form this season. He leads the league with 14 assists and is vying to break the Premier League’s all-time record of 20 in a season.

He has also scored seven goals this season in the league.

Despite the fact it looks likely he will stay at the club this summer, there are still some persistent rumours that he could, in fact, move on this summer.

As a result, The Peoples Person asked its readers what they would say if the club received an £85-90 million offer for the player this summer.

No deal

35% of supporters unequivocally stated that the star should not be sold at any price.

Fernandes has been by far and away the club and league’s most creative player this season, and it is hard to see which player could replicate his current numbers at the club.

Only if he asks

25% of voters stated that they also do not want to sell the player but would grant the player his wish if that was what he wanted.

Fernandes is one of, if not the most popular player amongst the fan base, so it is reasonable that many would want to do right by a player who has done so much for the club over these last six years.

Yes

Interestingly, 21% of fans voted that they would sell the player with no qualms should an offer of that magnitude arrive.

They perhaps look at the player’s age of 31 years old and may feel the offer is just too good to turn down for a player who is on the wrong side of 30.

Fans are also acutely aware the club must spend big this summer in the midfield and other areas, so may see a large Bruno fee as ideal for a summer overhaul.

Yes but for 100m

Finally, 19% of supporters believe that Fernandes should not be sold for the price of £85-90 million but that they would do a deal if a hypothetical fee reached £100 million.

Again, they may feel this sort of money is too good to turn down. Nonetheless, proponents of keeping Fernandes may point to the eight chances he created on Wednesday night despite playing below his usual standards and ask if the club could entice anyone from the transfer market who would have similar productivity.
