Bunny Shaw wants to “feel comfortable being uncomfortable” as Manchester City prepare to face Chelsea in what could prove to be a decider in the WSL title race.
City took a nine-point lead at the top thanks to their 2-1 victory over the London City Lionesses.
The chance to build the gap was presented by Chelsea, after the WSL champions fell to a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal one day prior.
Shaw proved she is one of the best strikers in women’s football, with her dramatic late winner against London City.
Chelsea have an immediate chance to close the gap back down to six points when they travel to Manchester City on Sunday.
Sonia Bompastor’s side hold the edge over City this season. Chelsea are the only side to take points off City in the WSL this season, and also knocked them out of the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash, Shaw said: “Football is about challenge. You want to feel comfortable being uncomfortable in order for you to get better and that’s something that I’ve always tried to do.
“I think coming up against some of the best players, it’s what you want because if you can show your talent that way.
“It’s the best way to show it, so it will be a challenge but it’s definitely one I’m looking forward to.”
A victory for Manchester City would build their gap to Chelsea to 12 points with eight games to play. It would also present Arsenal and Manchester United the opportunity to jump ahead of the reigning champions.

Shaw is arguably the biggest reason as to why City are top of the table, scoring 13 goals in as many games this season.
She is six goals clear of Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson in the Golden Boot race.
However, City fans might have some concern, with Shaw’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
The latest on Shaw’s contract situation at Manchester City is that she is expected to sign a new deal.
Sky Sports have reported that talks are “going ahead positively” and that Bunny Shaw is “very happy” at the club.
Shaw also described City as her “home” after scoring her 100th goal for the club against Aston Villa last month.
The 28-year-old Jamaican international has now scored 103 goals in 123 appearances for City.
