Burnley have been urged to make one transfer demand of Galatasaray for midfield target Lesley Ugochukwu, with exits expected from Turf Moor...

Burnley are fielding interest from plenty of clubs currently in some of their best players, with Lesley Ugochukwu potentially departing Turf Moor for Galatasaray just a year after joining from Chelsea.

The disappointment of relegation is only heightened by the prospect of Burnley losing so many of their standout performers in one summer. Zian Flemming and Jaidon Anthony both appear destined for an immediate return to the top flight, while Lesley Ugochukwu and Maxime Esteve are also among those widely expected to move on.

There will almost certainly be further departures before the transfer window closes, but those four currently stand out as the biggest potential losses. Replacing that level of quality, experience, and influence will be no easy task. Burnley face a significant rebuilding job if they are to mount another serious push for promotion at the first attempt.

It's since been revealed that Turkish giants Galatasaray want to sign Ugochukwu from Burnley in a loan-to-buy deal this summer. The Frenchman has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Clarets so far, scoring three and assisting two in that time.

FLW's Burnley fan pundit Aaron Wright issued his thoughts on the situation after Galatasaray are said to have submitted a £1.7 million loan bid for Ugochukwu, with a £17 million purchase fee included depending on the amount of times he plays.

We asked if he expects that to be rejected, given Ugochukwu signed for more than £20 million (BBC Sport) at Turf Moor. We asked if he thinks Ugochukwu would be tempted by a move to Turkey. He responded: "For Ugochukwu himself, absolutely, he will want to go to Galatasaray.

"It's a big club, they pay well, they seem to throw money around quite a bit for a non-top five league team, and Champions League football for him.

"But, just from a Burnley perspective, it's all about just make sure we don't lose money. If something is not going to work, the best thing we can do is not lose anything on it."

Burnley are in limbo currently ahead of 2026/27

It's pretty obvious that Burnley must prioritise permanent sales for their most valuable assets this summer, rather than agreeing to loan deals with options or obligations to buy. Following relegation from the Premier League, the Clarets need immediate transfer income to help reshape the squad.

They also need it to simply provide clarity over their finances, even with parachute payments softening the initial blow. Delaying significant fees by another year would only make that rebuilding task more difficult for a team looking to bounce back at the first time of asking.

That is why a club such as Galatasaray cannot realistically expect Burnley to sanction a loan move for Ugochukwu, particularly if it does not guarantee substantial funds arriving this summer. Burnley require certainty, not further uncertainty with deals that do not immediately benefit them.

While losing key players is never ideal, securing sizeable permanent fees would allow the club to reinvest, reduce their wage bill, and give themselves the best possible chance of assembling a squad capable of challenging for an immediate return to the Premier League. There is loads to be done at Turf Moor, with a new manager yet to be instated too.

As it stands, they risk being left behind somewhat by others eyeing a promotion push in 2026/27. That clarity on the man in charge and the futures of wantaway players is desperately needed as soon as possible, though.
