Borussia's strong performance against 1. FFC Recklinghausen in their last match (6-1 away victory) is now set to be followed with another three points on the road at the BB Bank Sportpark in Cologne. In addition to long-term injury absentee Melanie Schuster, BVB will also be without Mia Scholle: the midfielder has suffered a tear of her anterior cruciate ligament in training and will not be available to BVB in the near future. “Mia Scholle is an excellent technician who always finds good solutions, especially in pressure situations,” said head coach Markus Högner, who went on to add: “That makes it all the more bitter to lose such a player for so long. The important thing now is that she completes a good rehabilitation programme so that she can return to the pitch fit and healthy following her recovery.” Everyone else is available for the game at Deutz.

There the BVB women will face the team currently occupying seventh place in the table with six points from four matches. Looking ahead to SV Deutz 05, Markus Högner said: “As was the case against Recklinghausen, we'll be up against a robust opponent that has fought well so far this season and already picked up two solid victories thanks to their experience. In Lisa Brenner, they also have a very good goalkeeper between the posts.” He thus believes it will once again come down to showing the required intensity, defending well and counter-pressing aggressively at all times from the first minute onwards. “We will repeatedly have to draw on all these strengths, in addition to our attacking positional play. Only then can we put pressure on our opposition for as long as possible and keep the tempo high,” added Högner. According to Högner, careless mistakes such as the late consolation scored by the Recklinghausen women last week to make it 6-1 are annoying and to be avoided.

The pitch conditions at the BB Bank Sportpark in Cologne have also played a role in the Black & Yellows' preparations throughout the week. As the home ground of the SV Deutz 05 women's team is equipped with artificial turf, the team recently trained on a similar surface at the Hoeschpark in Dortmund.

The BVB women will also be hoping to have strong support away from home when the match kicks off on Sunday (21/09) at 13:00 CEST. All fans who cannot be at the stadium on the day of the game can look forward to free and exclusive live coverage of the match via Pluto TVRobert Targan
