The BVB women got off to a flying start against Mönchengladbach and dominated the first ten minutes, with the visitors barely able to get a touch of the ball. Annika Enderle had the first shot on goal in the fifth minute, but it went just wide. Jasmin Jabbes then failed to beat the visitors' goalkeeper in the tenth minute, as her effort was placed far too centrally. Dana Marquardt then narrowly missed with a header from a Rita Schumacher corner (21), while Gladbach also failed to capitalise on a free kick from a good position in the 30th minute. Ann-Sophie Vogel had the best chance five minutes later when she broke through down the left but failed to beat the goalkeeper from a tight angle on the edge of the six-yard box.

The Black & Yellows then took a deserved lead in the 40th minute: a cross from Vogel was not properly cleared by the Gladbach defence, allowing Ronja Leubner to fire home from a central position to make it 1-0. Shortly before half-time, Marquardt missed the chance to make it 2-0 when Gladbach goalkeeper Jil Frehseihr denied her from the penalty spot, meaning the two teams went into the break with BVB narrowly up on the scoreboard.

Ten minutes after the restart, Enderle had the first big chance of the second period: the Borussia player successfully rounded the goalkeeper, but a Gladbach defender did well to get back and clear the ball off the line. In the 60th minute, Sara Ito had to be substituted due to injury and was replaced by Noreen Günnewig.

The BVB women continued to pose a threat going forward: Jabbes played the ball across the box to Marquardt, but her shot was straight at the goalkeeper (65). The next goal finally came four minutes later: Leubner played a through ball to Enderle, who ran in all alone and calmly slotted home to make it 2-0.

Although Gladbach pulled one back in the 76th minute through Maresa Arici, the BVB women did not allow themselves to become unsettled. Shortly before the final whistle, Marquardt headed home a cross from Jenske Steenwijk to make it 3-1 (87). The BVB women thus advance to the next round of the DFB-Pokal.

The draw, held immediately after the play-off match, gave Borussia a real highlight to look forward to: between 27 and 29 September, the Black & Yellows will host the reigning German champions and cup winners from Bavaria, FC Bayern Munich. Former international Turid Knaak and draw host Maren Meinert drew the lots for the first round at the Rote Erde stadium.

However, the BVB women's team will be back in action this Sunday. At 15:00 CEST, they will host Bayer Leverkusen's U20 team for their first matchday in the Regionalliga West. Tickets for the match at the Rote Erde Stadium are available from the online ticket shop.
