The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday, March 9, a significant increase in the prize money for both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

The winner of the 2025-2026 edition of the CAF Champions League will receive a prize of $6 million, which is a $2 million increase from the previous edition. As for the other flagship tournament, the CAF Confederation Cup, it has witnessed a 100% increase, with the winner of the current edition set to receive $4 million—also up by $2 million.

Patrice Motsepe frames this bold move as part of his institution’s broader policy to enhance the value of African football.

According to CAF’s statement, during Motsepe’s five-year tenure, the Champions League winner’s prize has soared from $2.5 million to $6 million—a 140% increase. Meanwhile, the Confederation Cup prize has jumped from $1.25 million to $4 million—a staggering 220% increase.
