Cafu backs Carlo Ancelotti to take charge of Brazil | OneFootball

Cafu has backed Carlo Ancelotti to take charge of the Brazil national team, should the latter leave Real Madrid.

Ancelotti has been linked with an exit from Real Madrid after disappointing European exit to Arsenal last week. The holders were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate to exit the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

It’s the first time in five seasons that Real Madrid have not made the semi-finals, while Los Blancos also trail Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

Brazil are believed to be keen on appointing Ancelotti to lead their World Cup bid. The South American nation sacked head coach Dorival Junior in March, following an emphatic 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Argentina in qualification for the tournament.

Brazil are searching for a big name to lead their challenge, with the five-time world champions having progressed past the World Cup quarter-finals just once in the last five attempts.

Cafu, who won a record 142 caps for the Selecao and played in three World Cup finals, has backed Ancelotti for the role. The former Brazil captain played under Ancelotti at AC Milan and said the national team would be ‘in good hands’ under the 65-year-old.

“I worked with Ancelotti for five years at Milan and they were five wonderful years,” Cafu said.

“Ancelotti is not just a coach, he is a friend, a father, a companion, he understands football. If CBF (The Brazilian Football Confederation) chooses Ancelotti, the Selecao will be in good hands.”
