Cagliari ‘to target’ Lazio full-back as they seek to replace Palestra | OneFootball

According to Sky Sport Italia, Cagliari have added Lazio full-back Romano Floriani Mussolini to their right wing-back shortlist as they look to replace Marco Palestra. The outlet adds they are close to acquiring Atalanta’s Daniel Maldini, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Lazio.

Il Messaggero reports that Lazio expect to keep the 23-year-old, who could compete with Adam Marusic. The management plans to sell Manuel Lazzari before his contract expires next year.

Palestra shone on Cagliari’s right flank last season, then returned to Atalanta and was sold to Chelsea for €55 million.

Floriani Mussolini came through Lazio’s academy and boosted his profile with Juve Stabia in Serie B in 2024/25. He then had his first Serie A taste at Cremonese last term but did not secure a regular starting spot.

Following Cremonese’s relegation, they declined their option to buy, sending him back to Lazio. He has impressed in Gennaro Gattuso’s pre-season camp and is expected to feature in Serie A again.
