Pape Matar Sarr's appeal to Moroccan justice one month after the CAN 2025 final

CAN 2025 final: Pape Matar Sarr calls for the release of Senegalese detainees
Pape Matar Sarr made a public plea this Tuesday for the release of the 18 Senegalese supporters still being held in Morocco. This comes one month after the CAN 2025 final, clinched by the Lions of Teranga.
Arrested for "hooliganism" following incidents in the stands during this tense match, the Senegalese fans denounce what they describe as unjust detention and claim they were not heard in their native Wolof language, despite repeated requests.
On X, Pape Matar Sarr condemned what he considers an unjust situation. “30 days of detention for supporters whose only fault was passionately supporting their team. We strongly denounce this injustice and demand their release. Full support for our compatriots.” he wrote.
Since their incarceration, the detained supporters have begun a hunger strike to protest their conditions and demand a fair trial, a move relayed by their lawyer Patrick Kabou.
