Canada eyeing second Gold Cup title

Canada kicked off its campaign unbeaten with a 2-1-0 record to claim the top spot in Group B. The Reds opened with a 6-nil win over Honduras, followed by a 1-1 draw against Curaçao and a 2-nil victory against El Salvador.

Tajon Buchanan and Nathan Saliba lead the team in goals so far with two each. Additionally, Jonathan David reached seven goals in only seven total appearances and is now at the top of Canada’s all-time Gold Cup scoring chart, demonstrating his efficiency and importance to the team.

Canada reached the Quarterfinals for a fifth straight edition and will be in search of lifting a second Gold Cup trophy.

Guatemala in search of returning to Semifinals

Guatemala secured its place in the Knockout Stage by finishing second in Group C with a 2-0-1 record. The Central Americans topped Jamaica 1-nil for its first-ever Gold Cup win against the Reggae Boyz in its opening encounter. Los Chapines then fell 1-nil against Panama before bouncing back with a 3-2 win in a thriller against Guadeloupe.

Guatemala’s four goals have been scored by four different players. Olger Escobar became the youngest Central American scorer at a Gold Cup at 18 years and 9 months with his strike against Guadeloupe.

Guatemala seeks to advance to the Semifinals for the second time in its history, previously reaching the stage in the 1996 edition.
