Real Madrid have signed Carlos Espí, delivering José Mourinho the centre-forward profile he asked for. The move follows the sale of Gonzalo and targets a Joselu-style presence up front.

According to Superdeporte, Gonzalo’s exit unlocked and accelerated the deal as other clubs pursued Espí, a scarce type of striker at that price. Mourinho had that blueprint with Gonzalo last season, and his departure left a sizeable gap.

The coach sought a target man who links play as well as finishes. Espí drops to take long balls, releases wingers quickly and then attacks the heart of the box.

His breakthrough came in 2026 after Calero’s departure and the arrival of Luís Castro. Despite limited top-flight experience and intense pressure, Espí’s goals kept Levante up.
