Levante claimed a crucial home victory over Deportivo Alavés in a high-stakes relegation battle at the Ciutat de València, sparked by a late brace from substitute Carlos Espí after a laboured first half. It was a night of suffering and resolve for Luís Castro’s side.
According to Superdeporte, Mathew Ryan was outstanding before the break, producing several important saves including a vital double stop. Dela marshalled the defence impressively and Iván Romero spurned the clearest Levante chance.
The hosts returned with intent, Carlos Álvarez struck the post and Kareem Tunde drew a red card for Parada, an incident that swung the contest. Momentum and territory followed.
Espí first saw an acrobatic volley superbly saved by Sivera after a fine Jeremy Toljan cross. He then found the top corner late on, before adding a clincher in the closing stages.
Castro’s team played with far greater bravery after the interval, the half-time message proving decisive as Levante pressed with conviction. Heart and belief underpinned the turnaround.
Paco Cortés tormented his flank and delivered quality service. Manu Sánchez and Toljan improved going forward, Olasagasti grew into the game, while Ugo Raghouber mixed bright phases with risky losses. Morales, Oriol Rey and Iker Losada contributed, and Etta Eyong had a quiet cameo.
The result keeps Levante’s survival bid alive, with the granotas now four points shy of safety.
