Real Madrid ended their final game before the international break with an emphatic win over Villarreal at home last night, provisionally taking back the pole position on the leaderboard.
That, however, does not mean that the game was simple or devoid of controversy to any extent.
A Vinicius Jr. brace handed Los Blancos the edge with a 2-0 lead but Villarreal began to fight back and even pulled a goal to make it 2-1.
An untimely sending off, however, saw the game collapse for the visitors.
Real Madrid’s new signing Alvaro Carreras spoke to the media after the game and began by addressing the gruelling game the team had to endure to take three points over Marcelino’s side.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult match, that it was going to be a good, hard game.

“In the end, the three points stay here, which is what matters and what we play for.”
“At the beginning, we were playing with a back three and then I could clearly see that we needed to open up more.
“At half-time, we talked about it again and I stayed further back,” he added.
The player then opened up on what Xabi Alonso expects of him on the field, to which he said,
“What he asks of me is to help. That’s what I said from the beginning, I’m here to help whoever plays: Vini, Rodrygo, whoever’s there.”
“He asks me to help, to provide depth, but above all to be intense and tough at the back,” he added.
Carreras then praised Real Madrid’s two in-form attackers and how they can be decisive in any game against any opponent.
“They’re in very good form, they’re on top of their game. Let’s hope they can keep it up all season.”
“But above all, I’m happy with the team. We’re all performing at a high level, which is the important thing. That’s how we’re going to achieve a lot,” he added.

Aurelien Tchouameni was the next player in white to face the media, and he too handed heavy praise to the opposition on the night.
“We knew before the game that Villarreal are a top team in LaLiga. We wanted to win this game and go into the break with three points, and we’ve done that.
“I’m happy with everyone’s goals, we have to keep it up.”
Reflecting on the derby defeat against Atletico Madrid and how they had learnt their lesson, the midfielder said,
“We didn’t play well against Atlético, but when we play every three days, we know that there’s another game coming up very quickly.”
“We did well in Kazakhstan and today with a very important win for us. Now we go into the international break and then we have other important games,” he added.
Tchouameni then revealed that Alonso asked the team to win the game for the fans in the stands, saying,
“To win with our fans, and we did that. We played well, and little by little we found our rhythm in the match. It’s a very important victory.”
The game last night marked a milestone for Tchouameni who has now played 100 La Liga games with Real Madrid. Reacting to the achievement, he said,
“Very happy. I’ve been playing for the best club in the world for four years and I want to continue doing so.”
“I want to win titles, help my team win matches, and today we did that. We have to keep it up,” he added.
